Headache Relive Tricks + Tips

Every person gets that splitting headache at some point of their life.  In the world we live in our first instinct is to pop a couple of pills and lay down.

 I like to think of headaches as my conscious telling me,

“WOMAN!  Pull yourself together!!!”

For example, did you know that most headaches are caused by dehydration?? 

 Maybe we should start listening more to our bodies and putting more good in.  Here are a few all natural fixes to help with headaches, so next time instead of popping those pills try one of these out!

  • Drinking water– Although it sounds so simple most of us get caught up in our errands and running around like headless chickens all day that we forget that we are supposed to drink a MINIMUM of 2.2 liters per day. That’s about 9 glasses.  Add a lemon, lime, or alkaline of your choice to help you hydrate a bit quicker. Or you can try this headache relief drink from!

  • Sleep– Now knowing myself someone tells me sleeping is healthy for me and I will jump at the opportunity to curl up in my blankets and snuggle my worries away.  Lack of, or too much of sleep though can really start to hurt us.  If you have trouble getting a solid 7-8 hours of sleep a night try a white noise machine, turning your phone OFF!! (clearly if you’re popular), or maybe music or chamomile tea to help you unwind.

*This next one is my favorite go to remedy*

  • Aromatherapy– Using an essential oil such as peppermint, lavender, eucalyptus, sandalwood, rosemary, or basil are all great go-to scents for headaches.  You can use a diffuser if you have one, or simply boil some hot water with a few drops and inhale the steam-be careful you don’t get too close and burn yourself.  My favorite method though is to take a few drops and put them behind your ears, on your forehead,  and on the base of your skull where it meets your spine-be sure to wash your fingers after though-especially if you wear contacts….I learned the hard way.
  • Stretching– Try some of these simple yoga poses to help stretch the muscles in your back and neck and help relieve some tension!

Now that you’re sitting there with your pounding headache from staring at the computer screen too long go home and try a few of these out.  Maybe if you’re super desperate combine them all!!!!
