Home Cooking and Exercising: How to Lose the Extra 10-15 Pounds

We would all like nothing better than to wish our extra pounds away, but unfortunately things are not that simple. The truth is that if we want to make permanent changes on our bodies and in our mindset, dedicating time and effort to this goal is necessary, which usually scares us the most. There are no shortcuts to health and good shape, but there are some healthier habits that you can benefit from greatly over the course of time. There are many ways to go around shedding extra pounds, but in this article we’re focusing on simple methods that will help you lose weight with minimal effort.

Home Cooking

swoob-home-cooking There are many more benefits to eating home cooked meals than just losing weight, though it’s an important factor. By preparing your own meals, you know perfectly well what you’re eating, what ingredients you’re consuming and just how good those meals are for you. Eating out in restaurants or reaching for processed food daily is not only more expensive, it’s also not healthy, not just because of weight gain, but because those foods are packed with complex empty carbs, sodium and fats that get stuck in our metabolism and slow it down. By taking things into your hands literally, you’ll have complete control over what’s happening on your plate, plus you get to change the recipe any way you like. Restaurant portions are larger than they should be, so we consume more food and with it more calories than we should, plus you’re paying a lot of money and you still don’t to know what you’re eating, which is quite a paradox when you think about it.

Meal Prepping

If you’re still strengthening your willpower and you’re not sure if you can resist junk food and unhealthy snacks every time, then meal prepping will be a lifesaver for you. Not only will you be save a nifty amount of cash, but you will have healthy meals and snacks at your fingertips at all times. Maybe you don’t want to get stuck in the kitchen every day when you come back from work, so think and in advance and prepare meals in larger batches, so that you’ve got your food covered for couple of days in advance. You can bring your pre-prepped meals to work with you and they will be an excellent source of nutrients, plus you’re saving money and you’re taking care of your figure by opting out to eat real food without all the excess calories and sodium. If you’re really on a tight schedule and you can’t find the time to do your meal prepping, then by all means order food, but make sure you get your meals from healthy meal delivery services that way you’re consciously choosing to eat well even when you don’t have the time to prepare the meals yourself.

A Little Bit of Exercise Does Wonders

Exercising is one of the two “monsters” of losing weight and for millions of people, working out is their personal torture from hell. However, here perception and approach to sculpting your body is everything and you don’t have to start with an hour long gym sessions straight away, in fact you don’t have to do that at all. Just by moving more and being out in the fresh air whenever you can does wonders for how you feel in your skin, not to mention that your mood changes for the better too. There are countless ways to incorporate exercise into, or in between, your everyday activities. Go for a jog on your lunch break, go to work on foot or cycle there instead of driving, that alone is enough to boost your metabolism into the next gear. Naturally, you should kick your routine up a notch as the time goes by, but do it in a way that is interesting to you, find activities you’re passionate about, be it Zumba lessons, swimming or free climbing, and weight loss will be but one of numerous benefits you will reap.

Not All Carbs Are Bad

swoob-healthiest-whole-grains-carbsThis is very important for all of us to remember, seeing that carbs are considered to be the devil of all food, when in reality, they’re our primary source of energy. What you should differentiate are the type of carbs you consume – if you focus on eating whole grains, nuts and lean meats, you can be certain that the pounds will melt away. Unfortunately, we’re surrounded by empty calories and complex carbs and by consuming them, we’re making it more difficult for our bodies to get in better shape. Bottom line, don’t be afraid of carbs, but choose foods that are full of carbs that are beneficial for you.

Losing weight without effort isn’t possible, unless in some extreme situations. We want to encourage you to start implementing new habits gradually, so that you can get accustomed to them and be happy with the results. Eating well and exercising is a habit, just like lack of activity and unhealthy nourishment was, all you have to decide is to flip the switch and find ways toward being a healthier and better self. – Theresa Brawner
